Day 41: Trees

The trees speak volumes to me about

lives long passed. Yesterday it was the young girl carrying water

whose journey met an unfortunate fate. Life taken by the colonizers

as she fought them off.

They also speak to the protection they offered those fleeing the unwelcome invaders;

sustenance, cover and groves to plan.

The trees tell me stories about

life now. Today it is the loss of their relatives

at the hands of modern systems of destruction and the humans

that advance them.

They also tell me about the underground networks for transferring information and

resources to one another.

The trees show glimpses into

the future. Tomorrow i may have to tell stories in their absence

as their lives are deemed less valuable than the money to be made by their destruction.

They also show glimpses into the life that assumes new and evolving forms,

reminding me that i needn’t worry about them.
