Day 5: Development

victims of development?

trees with roots connected deep within the soil

many species of insects and fungi

and plants and birds

and worms beautiful worms

sacred waters and lands and air

bursting with pollution waste contamination

humans lose too

our connection with the life surrounding us

confined to boxes or squares on the sidewalk

limited to parks or small public pathways

squeezed between privately owned properties

health compromised

hooked on pharmaceuticals

destruction of ecosystems and species die offs

warming world with fewer natural resources

beneficiaries of development?

is there such a thing when all are connected?

shrunken disconnected sorry souls

for whom profit is their guide

perhaps they benefit for now

we all lose in the end
