Entry 5. September 2021

Fall is a beautiful time of transition from the excitable, external-facing heat of summer to the contemplative, inward-facing cold of winter. (At least for those living in areas that experience seasons in this way.) In a way, the fall symbolizes this phase of life: the place between adulthood and eldership. I am a bit more contemplative than a few years ago, but not quite what i would consider to be wise. Like these past 9 months, the road behind me is long. And though a bit shorter, the months and my path ahead are full of possibility.

Hmmm. Autumn. There remains enough warmth to lure me outdoors, and just enough coolness to keep me there. Yesterday, the first day of fall and on the Harvest Moon, i had the privilege of working outdoors on a makeshift desk, with my computer and large cup of water. The sun peaked through the waving leaves atop the community of trees on the other side of the fence. And the mating calls of insects and toads provided background music for my day. Between bouts of productivity, i walked to the edge of the porch, breathed deeply and listened. That is fall for me. That is this stage of life for me. Noticing the transition and all the changes it brings, leaning into, embracing and being fully present in them. And so it is.
