Day 8 Black August: today i remember

today i remember and honor the countless freedom fighters who remain unnamed in history; those whose tireless efforts made possible movements for justice and equity, and the resulting societal changes, however short lived.

today i remember and honor those who had the audacity to believe that we were better than what we were raised to believe, that black lives mattered and passed those ideas, beliefs and understandings along to younger generations.

today i remember those who kept the fires of freedom alive in the minds, hearts and lived realities of the home, with children and others, but who couldn’t themselves stand on the frontlines.

today i give thanks for those whose names we shall never know, but whose great efforts left something for those alive today to stand on and build upon.
